IMF publishes the April 2019 edition of the World Economic Outlook Report

The World Economic Outlook Report is a periodic survey made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), usually twice a year, which contains a detailed analysis of the world economy, highlighting the main issues affecting industrial countries, developing countries, and economies in transition to market. The publication also addresses topics of pressing current interest (like for instance the consequences of the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union).

WCO offers further support to Kenya within the Programme Global Shield

The Programme Global Shield (PGS) is a multilateral initiative developed by the World Customs Organisation (WCO) which aims at building the capacity of customs administrations to combat the illicit trafficking and diversion of chemicals and other components used by terrorists to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the most prevalent form of explosives employed by terrorists around the world, due to the cheapness and wide availability of the materials needed to manufacture them. Started in November 2010 as a temporary (6 month) project, the PGS has been turned into a long-term program, which is now also recognised by the United Nations, that encourages all countries to participate and support it.

One Stop Border Posts in Africa

A One Stop Border Post is a shared space located at a border crossing between two adjoining countries, or in its proximity, where the border agencies of the two States with inspection responsibilities on goods, persons and vehicles (e.g. Customs, Immigration, Police, health authorities, veterinary authorities, etc.) carry out their functions in a combined and coordinated manner.

Guidelines on the exchange of electronic advance data between postal operators and Customs

The World Customs Organization (WCO), in collaboration with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) - a specialized agency of the United Nations whose aim is to secure the organization and improvement of postal services and to promote the development of international collaboration in this sphere - has recently published the Guidelines on the exchange of electronic advance data between postal operators and Customs administration staff dealing with postal customs clearance. Such guidelines were adopted in the last meeting of the WCO Council (the WCO highest decision-making body, made up of the Directors General of the 183 WCO Member Customs administrations), held at the end of June 2019.
