New study reveals low level of AfCFTA awareness in francophone Africa

The fourth edition of the International Trade Centre (ITC) publication “Promoting SME Competitiveness in Francophone Africa” finds that in francophone Africa only a quarter of firms know the AfCFTA and its benefits. Hence, the report concludes that efforts are still necessary in order to increase the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) knowledge of the opportunities offered by the new continental free trade agreement.

Trade within Regional Trade Agreements more resilient that in regions without FTAs, except in Africa

A new research paper from UNCTAD reveals that trade within Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) has been more resilient during the COVID-19 crisis, as its decline has been less pronounced than in regional areas where no free trade agreement (FTA) is in place.

Sub-Saharan Africa economy set to expand by 3.3 percent in 2021

According to the latest edition of the World Bank Africa’s Pulse, the biannual analysis of the near-term macroeconomic outlook for Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa economy is set to expand by 3.3 percent in 2021, i.e. one percentage point higher than the previous forecast (April 2021), and with respect to the recent UNCTAD estimate given in latest Trade and Development report (2021), issued on 15 September 2021.

Kuwait and Bahrain lift ban on Kenya’s meat exports

After the successful shipment of Kenyan mangoes to Italy of this week and the removal by Kenya of the self-ban on export of mangoes to the European Union, also Kuwait and Bahrain have lifted the ban on Kenya’s meat exports after the country started vaccination exercises against the Rift Valley fever in the affected areas, and complied with global health standards at its export processing facilities.
