EU bans importation of fishery products from Cameroon

With a press release issued on 5 January, the European Commission announced its intention to include Cameroon in the list of “non-cooperating countries” in the framework of its fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Even though the final decision has to be adopted by the EU Council, in the meantime, the EU Member States are obliged – as an interim measure -  to refuse the importation of fishery products from Cameroon even if accompanied by catch certificates validated by the national authorities.

Supporting the informal sector in Africa: the Tambula e-marketplace experience

As everybody knows, the informal sector represents a large and growing share of the economy and of the employment force in all developing economies, including Africa. Ethiopia publishes its national blue economy strategy

Despite being a landlocked country, Ethiopia has adopted a five-year (2023-2027) national Blue economy strategy, in an attempt to harness the potential of its freshwater ecosystems while, at the same time, protecting the large biodiversity of its territory. The term “Blue Economy” is generally referred to the sustainable use of marine and aquatic ecosystems for promoting economic growth. It covers all water resources, including lakes, groundwater and rivers, in addition to oceans and the coast. Typical blue economy sectors include fisheries, aquaculture (a sector that in Ethiopia is still at an infantile stage), tourism, inland water transport, ports, energy and mining, with links to many other sectors.
